Importance of Steel Pipes

Biggest supplier and exporter of steel pipes

If we look back, the history of steel pipes goes back to 2000 B.C. These pipes were first used by Chinese to transport water to the desired locations. These days Steel Pipes are used every ware from industrial to residential applications that is –
From transmission of water, natural oil and gas, petroleum.
For manufacturing purpose like bicycle frame, automobile industry, making refrigeration units, heating and plumbing systems, flagpoles, street lamps etc. They are also used in construction so that electrical wires can be protected.

Different Types of Steel Pipes
Over century’s many techniques have evolved for manufacturing Steel Pipes and on the bases of that steel pipes can be broadly classified into two types –
1) Seamless Steel pipes
2) Single welded seam Steel pipes

Seamless Steel pipes
Seamless Steel pipes are manufactured from solid round billets, there is no welding or joints, and thus seamless steel pipes have thinner walls and are light weight. They are used for manufacturing bicycles and transporting liquids. Seamless steel pipes are also used in High-pressure application industry such as Hydrocarbon Industries & Refineries, Oil & Gas Exploration & Drilling, Oil & Gas Transportation and Air and Hydraulic cylinders, Bearings, Boilers, and Automobiles etc.

Single Welded Seam or Seamed Steel pipes or Electric Resistance Welded (E.R.W.) steel Pipe –
Single Welded pipes are manufactured by rolling steel strips through a series of grooved rollers that mold the material into a circular shape. Subsequent, the unwedded pipes are passed through welding electrodes sealing the two ends. Seamed steel pipes are heavier, rigid, have better consistency and are normally straighter. They are used mainly for low/ medium pressure uses such as transportation of water, oil and gas, electrical pipes and plumbing.

Why Steel Pipes?
Steel Pipes are used extensively over other metals and plastics because –
Steel pipes are durable, as they have low corrosion rate thus rust free for many years. The important thing is when used as water pipes it does not leach in to water and the contamination of water is nil practically.
They are strong and it can withstand any weather condition from high heat pressure, velocity, shock and tremors making it widely used for underground construction.
These pipes can be recycled over and over without losing any strength, unlike other metals; they are melted and converted into metal pieces which can be reused.
Using Steel pipes is cheaper than any other metal pipes because it has low corrosion rate and is strong which reduces the need for repairs and replacement. Thus making steel pipes cost effective.
Steel pipes are likely to remain the best choice for construction purpose for a very long time as it is durable and flexible as compared to other metals or plastic pipes. Further Stainless pipes are reasonably priced and are easily available.
